With your help, we’ve set the stage for global warming action this fall, but victory is far from assured.
So far, 50,000 people have helped keep the heat on Washington by urging Congress to pass comprehensive global warming legislation this year.
But, we need to double that to keep the pressure on.
Will you do your part by taking action now?
Our efforts are making a difference. After months of inaction, we are beginning to see historic progress in the Senate.
Moments ago, a key Senate subcommittee passed the Lieberman-Warner America Climate Security Act with bipartisan support.
The America Climate Security Act would establish a mandatory cap to dramatically reduce global warming pollution from the electric utility, oil and manufacturing industries, while at the same time protecting the economy and American consumers.
The bill now moves to the full Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, where action could come before Thanksgiving – furthering its potential to pass the full Senate.
Our job over the next few weeks is to protect and strengthen the bill – including, among other things, total emissions reductions – and work with members of Congress to pass it this year.
But, to do so, we need to maintain constant grassroots pressure. Every member of Congress needs to hear from every concerned citizen in order to keep up the pressure for action.
Will you help by taking action today?
When you’re done, please pass the word on to your friends, family, coworkers and neighbors to join with us in Operation Climate Vote.
