You might think that snowboarding in August might suck really bad. Up here at Timberline it’s still really good. Today there was a little session in the High Cascade Pipe going down with some of the coaches and diggers. Here is a little peep show of some boned out tweaks from today.
- Scott Stevens putting a boosty indy tailbone in the HCSC pipe
- In your face
- Meg Pugh blasting the highest airs of the day. First hit stalefish on her heelside wall
As July comes to an end it has also brought the hottest weather of the summer. Of course the snow is melting pretty fast but don’t get the notion that it’s still not amazing up here. There is plenty of snow up on the Palmer Snow Field and both High Cascade and Windells have been maintaining and making new features every session still. This session at High Cascade has also brought some of the best photographers in the biz to give campers all the pointers to see what it takes to take photos like some of snowboarding’s best.
- It might look like things are getting pretty thin up there, but there is still plenty of snow on the snowfield
- Matty Mo threading the needle on a narrow strip with plenty of consequence
- Tim Zimmerman giving campers pointers this session with High Cascade’s photo session
- Jed Anderson one of the many times he killed this rail all day long
- balancing act
- There are still some decent size jumps at High Cascade to get some airtime
- Jonah Owen sending it deep. Switch frontside 900
- HCSC Digger Justin Keniston locking into a front board
As Session number four at High Cascade comes to a close and two more sessions to go you might be thinking that conditions might be starting to die down. Of course then you would be completely wrong. Once again the Jeremy Thompson, Tim Humphries, and some of the other Sessions riders around killing one of the jumps in the High Cascade park. Along side of them was Davis Johnson getting into the session. So once again another great session up here at Timberline with High Cascade has come to an end, but it’s still far from over. Keep checking for more.
- Jeremy Thompson having no problem getting after it with one previous day on snow after a long break
- High Cascade diggers prepping to pull all the rails out to set them right back up in a few days
- Brett Butcher with a textbook method on the booter
- Don’t let that dirty snow fool you, conditions up here are still prime
- Tim Humphries looking like he is about to see what his edge feels like on his head. Tweaked backside 720 Japan
- Davis Johnson giving the jump a go. Switch frontside 540
- Pat McCarthy taking off after a solid week of good riding and weather
- Jeremy Thompson, Davis Johnson, and Tim Humphries
- Jeremy spun every way on the jump in four hits, This time putting down a back seven

- This might be the reason why. Tim Humphries poking the shit out of a frontside 540
There is still plenty of action up here going off every day here at Hood. Today some of the Session outerwear’s finest made the trip out. Including Jeremy Thompson, Tim Humphries, Brett Butcher, and their newest addition to the team, Tara Dakides. Then of course there are all the other people up here slaying it as always. Eero Ettala and Heikki Sorsa had a little spin to win contest today on a tiny jump where there was some serious carcass tossing going down. So check out the pics and if you haven’t made your way out here this summer there is still time to get some fun shredding in.

Next Top Pro Model Presented By Snowboarder Magazine
Words, Photos and Video: Joe Carter
For the first time ever Snowboarder Magazine brings to you America’s Next Top Pro Model. Bringing out a long list of the worlds most elite riders for some fun up at Timberline. On the first day to get things kicked off there was a high ollie contest that after you cleared the bar had a loading dock style landing. Lauri took that one. Then to change things up a little everyone walked up to the 100 foot rail. There were a few makes to the end, and it was Derek Dennison that got there the cleanest. When day two came around the first event was the spin to win part of the contest. Where Pat Moore did some really fast carcass chucking and took that event down with a 1080 on a jump you would not think is big enough for 3 spins. Then a little beak for lunch, followed up by Highest Air in the pipe. Where Lauri again took, but there were plenty of lofty airs by everyone else too. As everything was coming to a close Pat Bridges still had one more event for the riders. A Chinese downhill race from the top if the Windell’s Lane and ending at the bottom. Where Lauri again came through first. For the awards everyone headed down the road to Windells for some free dinner and the skate contest since Bonfire’s Pipe 2 Pipe contest was also going on the same day. Thanks to Pat Bridges, the rest of the Snowboarder Mag staff, Windells, Timberline, riders, and everyone else that put this on for another really fun event up here and a solid party that night in Govy.
- Gotta have the group shot
- The Mayor of Big Bear Chris Bradshaw giving that shit some pop
- (L-R) Bryan Fox, Louie Vito, Eddie Wall, Danny Kass, Pat Moore, Lauri Heiskari, Keegan Vilaika.
- Lauri making it over the bar with ease
- Pat Moore
- Keegan up and over, but this one is switch
- Kyle Clancy and Tim Zimmerman getting some summertime shredding in
- Kyle Clancy was not in the contest but that did not mean that he would lock in to the 100 footer
- Eero Ettala
- Not really a trick you would expect to see in the spin to win event, but nobody is going to complain about seeing Eero do backside rodeos
- T Bird giving a bird of his own
- E-Tree reminiscing about the old days when he was the head digger at Windells years ago
- Scotty Arnold putting down a front seven
- Bradshaw and Lucas Magoon switched their pro models for the event. Cab 3 on Gooner’s Yucky Charms board
- Lauri backside 7
- Louie Vito getting limber legs on a stalefish in the highest air
- This is how you do an indy nosebone. Eero Ettala
- Chinese downhill
- All the pro model boards were sold in a silent auction and all proceeds went to charity
- Eddie Wall letting campers know they will get chicks if they buy his board
- MFM getting campers pumped
- BRADSHAW!!!
- Derek, Bryan, Eero for the 100 foot rail event
- Pat, Eero, and Lauri for the spin to win event
- Chinese Downhill
- The overall winner was pretty easy to figure out since Lauri won most of the events
Last week up here at Hood as the session came to an end the weather on the hill decided to turn to crap. There was still some action going down in the up here in the great Northwest during the summer when you need to get away from Govy.
- My buddy Mark from Flow came up and brought a present. Dubbers getting a little breakfast
- When there are crazy winds on the mountain the diggers don’t mess around when it comes to their banner cave
- Probably the grossest thing I’ve ever seen. Chili slip and slide
Some of my buddies up here don’t always have access to get up on the hill, because let’s face it. Lift tickets are not exactly cheap. That does not mean that you can’t set up something sick with some man power and maybe a few cold ones. Dylan was nice enough to snap a few photos to show you a little something else from up here at Hood.
- Brian Connoy
- Block that shit up
- Frontside invert with bigfoot someplace hidden in the backround
For the third session at High Cascade you could say they have made some big changes. For one, the superpipe that was 18 feet has now grown to 22 for the US and Canadian halfpipe teams to come get nasty in. The ropetow has also been made much longer to access much more. Plus, the diggers and cat drivers have also made lots of changes with the rest of the entire park. Keep looking each day this week for lots more action.
- Still plenty of good snow up there on Timberline
You will be able to tell throughout the summer that I really like camping up at Hood when the snowboarding posts don’t go up for a few days. This past weekend the RV made it out with the FRENDS crew for some hot dogs, good times, and a lot of red cups filled up.
- Room for plenty and a lake at the zone
- One of the many mini golf holes we made, this one happens to be a dick
- CBass getting at it
- Snook maybe preparing food, but probably just making another drink
- Lago really holding his balance, good thing
- Danny Davis getting his physical therapy in, even in the middle of the woods
- One of New Hampshire’s finest Scotty Lago taking that shit down
