From the Wave Rave Daily Blog: “Joaquin - 10/18/2007 3:18:38 PM Todays question is “Where did the “Neckerchef” or “Bandana” come from? some people here have different theories on where it came from, some will say Shaun White, but the heads that work here will say it’s our pal at Snowboard Revolution,Johnny Centi hence the name “Johnny Talaban”and even our pal at Vans John Stratton was rocking it before everyone else finially figured it out, The question is- Is it really that cold in California? or are you waiting to robb a train? Mammoth Winter is coming sooner than you think getting colder and windy at night It’s going to be a better year I could say weather report just came out snowboarding some spots is still be told with some good stories that is the die hards that work here at Wave Rave!”
Joaquin here is your answer from Johnny C. No, its not that cold in California its actually somewhat the opposite. The reason I started rocking the bandana was because in 2001 during my first trip to Mammoth I had no idea that the sun was so intense. I decided to shred all day for three days at June Mountain with 1. no goggles and 2 no sunscreen. What a mistake. I soon found out that I was snowblind and had bleading blisters on my face. The only way I could get back out on the snow and in the sun was to completely cover my face. That is why I started rocking the bandana over my grill- Ultimate Sunblock. Oh’ and to rob that train running through Bridgeport every evening at 9:30 pm full of cash, criminals and whiskey.
