AK to Whistler: The Drive

After our amazing drive and stay up in Alaska it was time to start our trek back down south.  We all experienced some amazing days in Valdez and on the pass.  It was defiantly hard to leave this place especially for a contest but nevertheless the show must go on.  New Destination: Whistler BC.  Mileage 2,150. ETA: 1 day 17hrs. Here are a few photos from the Journey.

- This is the best way to describe what we drove through during the night.

- Right about here we were all wishing we were still in AK.

AK Updates - Mtn Ops Fish Fry

After riding, it was time for the “Fish Fry” our first annual social mixer in Valdez, a part of the Never Summer Snowboards BBQ. After preparing tons of local salmon filets with the Snowrev crew, we were ready for action. As were local band The Moondoggies. Four grills, 450 Salmon fillets, some moose, halibut and sockeye later, we were ready to chill and make some new friends over a cold Alaskan IPA.
Thanks again to Sheila, JD and Mr. Wan from the Mountain Sky Hotel and Suites for making the Fish Fry such a great success.

- Drink a couple of these bad boys and you will defiantly be dropping in.

- Despite the rain it was a grand gathering of locals, guides, riders, pilots and more.

- Staying warm and dry under the RV pull out.

- Lots of good stories were shared and told that night.

- The pipeline was the place to be that night.  If you played your cards right one of these fine bread Alaskan babes was yours for the taking!

Journey to AK - Part 1

It was time to hit the old dusty road. The ridiculous road trip that Johnny had mentioned months ago was actually about to happen. Throw out the maps; don’t need them things where we’re goin’. Only one main road leads into Valdez; the Alaska highway. It wasn’t the directions that would be difficult, rather the 3035 miles from Salt Lake City.

A couple ole’ moonshinin’ vagabonds were rallied aboard as we got underway. We were en route for the ice roads of Interior BC, the Yukanon and finally Alaska. Our covered wagon left Utah as a party of four but after I awoke from a sasparilly enduced nap, I found we had made a stop in Idaho to pick up one more traveller; Wyatt Caldwell. On yonder we went towards the boarder of our dear neighbors to the north. Just so happens though they didn’t take to kindly to our folk and thinking we might pull a poker game mutiny move, placed a monetary minimum for us to enter their lands. Third tries a charm and we were freed men on the open ice roads once again.

- Only just a bit over 3 days of continuous driving.

- Salt Lake City. Certainly a different world from Alaska.

- Andrew Miller gettin’ them Christian Calendar shots.

- Trucker Elliott, truckin’ on towards the ice roads.

- Johnny has been talking about driving to Alaska all winter.

- Pullin’ the ole’ covered wagon in to feed the horses. Keep on truckin’ through the night.

-  Made a quick midnight turnaround to pick up Wyatt Caldwell in Sun Valley.

- The morning of April 3rd. Still far far away from the ice roads of the North.

-The best part of the RV you can sleep while someone else drives.

- Craters of the Moon in central Idaho.

- Somewhere in the middle of Idaho.

-Hi ma’ I’m here in Northern Montana. The mountains are as jagged as the local women’s teeth.

- Elliott Levitt. Ice road trucker and officially over haircuts since 1984.

- We had to about ship and make way back towards Wyatt’s place for a roadside rendezvous to pick up his passport.

- Puttin’ in the early mornin’ shift.

- What happens in Helena, MT. Stays in Helena, MT.

- Canadian boarder at Sweetgrass, Montana.

-Access denied.

- Freedom ain’t free. Waiting to get back into the U.S.

Mid December in Utah

Finally, all that snow that Utah claims, to be the best has started to puke all over us. So the parties have slowed down. No, that’s not true at all actually. We have been spending most of our time shredding new pow at Brighton almost everyday. We have Charlie Friedland and Scott Blum making visit to SLC ride with us too. Then of course heading back to Salt Lake City for whatever the night might bring.

- Right off the lift and a five minute hike for untracked runs

-Taking a little mid run break in a little hut with Kyle Lopiccolo, Nick Dirks, Evan and Elliot Levitt

- Kyle Lopiccolo sending an indy noseboner off a quick natural tranny finder

- Charlie Friedland taking a break from finals just in time to haul ass through all the new snow at Brighton.

- Kyle again poking out a stalefish on this rock to rock landing shortly after he poked out a turd in the woods.

-A backflip over a gap got the best of Sam Spedale again. Just like the Bone Zone.

- I’m no hippy but that’s good stuff

- That might look like a Mohawk but there’s some balls on the back of Scott Blum’s head. I’m not very good at cutting hair.

- Bottoms up. Utah beer sucks.

- Who is that masked man? Scott really getting his night off on the right foot.

- Now I know how it feels to be Sam Spedale, it’s wierd.

- Elliot not feeling so good in the back of Andrew Miller’s truck on the way to party downtown at FICE.

Snowbird Opening Week Session

After a crazy trip from Oregon to Colorado and then back to Utah to another long night of partying I was pretty beat. Elliot Levitt came and woke me up bright and early telling me we’re going to Snowbird.  I threw on my gear as fast as I could and figured the fresh air and shredding would help me forget about my hangover. Having no clue what conditions were going to be like I found myself surprised when we got to the mountain and snow was falling on top of a good 5-6inches of new from the night before. The visibility was pretty rough at the top when you got off the tram, but it cleared up as you cruised down. We found some good stash’s of snow and put down a few solid slashes. Then we would hurry right back to the tram and try to get the front spot so we could spot any new lines for the ride down. If you have never been to Snowbird you should probably check it out. They are the first and last resort open in the Salt Lake area with some of the sickest terrain that will only be getting better as everything fills in with more snow.
