Day off in San Francisco

So the ICER AIR wasn’t exactly the grand spectacle that it was last year. The format changed from a massive scaffolding big air jump, probably able to be seen from across the bay in Oakland, to a catapult in hip, barely able to be seen from outside parking lot A of San Francisco’s Giant’s Stadium. We tried to make the best of the situation though, get some good content, and cover the event as best as we could. After the event we were pretty beat, maybe it was from working out in the warm sun in a parking lot, maybe it was because Andrew and I got lost getting to the stadium and ended up taking a detour of a few miles. Regardless of the reasons we went to my brothers place right near Golden Gate Park, got to work and then crashed.
One of the best things about covering events like this is you usually get a little bit of time to check out the surrounding area. The day after the event we took sometime to walk around and check out what San Francisco had to offer. We cruised down to the famous Haight-Ashbury neighborhood where you could seriously spend days scrounging through shops like Amoeba Records, they seriously have everything! Later on we made our way through Golden Gate Park, a huge park where you can basically see any kind of person. Homeless, wealthy, tourists, dancing rollerskaters, junkies, yuppies, their all in Golden Gate Park but all this gives it a vibe that makes it one of the best city parks you could ever walk around. After the park we headed to the actual Golden Gate bridge as any visitor to San Francisco does and walked around these old World War II bunkers.
At the end of the day we once again found ourselves exhausted from endless walking so we decided to check out this little Indian restaurant. I wish I could remember the name of this place because they had the best food, the best beer (Taj Mahal) and a real friendly staff. Its somewhere near the corner of 6th and Judah if you are ever in the area check it out, you won’t be disappointed.
So the event wasn’t exactly what we expected, preseason events are often hit or miss anyway, but San Francisco is by far one of the most interesting cities I’ve been to. It was a good weekend and now its back to Salt Lake where hopefully we will be seeing some snow soon.
