Suburban Blend in downtown Jamestown is one of the most core snowboard and skateboard shops in the world. They currently sell worldwide through the website Shoptheblend.com and have been really making a name for themselves this past year.

Their are so many snowboard shops in the industry today and that is ok with me. The more shops in the world, the more people have the ability to get snowboard gear and the more people that will actually be snowboarding.

Alphanumeric Clothing - Alphanumeric Clothing is a company based in San Diego, CA owned by Alyasha Owerka-Moore and Mirko Magnum. Alphanumeric is one of the few clothing lines out there with innovation and fresh look. For the next year they will be coming out with a full outerwear division. Honestly we saw some of the designs and they are top quality and unique designs. I still remember back in the days when they had Jeremy Jones on their pro team with a few other great riders; also the whole ad campaign related with the students, the school and Jeremy on the chalkboard (Jeremy Jones is still schooling people today). Snowboarding tops lists for outdoor injuries

NEW YORK - More people are hurt snowboarding than any other outdoor activity, accounting for a quarter of emergency room visits, according to the first national study to estimate recreational injuries.

Trailing snowboarding are sledding and hiking, researchers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report in the journal Wilderness and Environmental Medicine.

The most common problems were broken bones and sprains, accounting for half of all cases. About 7 percent of ER visits were for concussions or other brain injuries.

“We want people to participate in outdoor recreational activities. But we want people to recognize that there’s cause for concern and people can and do get injured,” study co-author Arlene Greenspan said Tuesday.

She said injuries can be avoided through planning and preparation: making sure your fitness level and skills match the activity and using proper equipment like helmets.

Greenspan said the study is the first to look at injuries from all activities, instead of individual sports or geographic areas.

The researchers looked at data on nonfatal injuries from outdoor activities treated at 63 hospitals in 2004 and 2005. They calculated that almost 213,000 people annually were treated for such injuries nationwide. About half of those injured are young, between ages 10 and 24 and half of the injuries are caused by falls.

Males are injured at twice the rate of females, but the research didn’t look at the reasons.

“It could be that males are more risky or it could be that males just participate more than females, or a combination of both,” said Greenspan.

Nearly 26 percent of the injures were from snowboarding followed by sledding (11 percent); hiking (6 percent); mountain biking, personal watercraft, water skiing or tubing (4 percent); fishing (3 percent) and swimming (2 percent).

From his experience on ski patrols, “it makes perfect sense to me that snowboard injuries rank high,” said Dr. Paul Auerbach, of Stanford School of Medicine.

Hey guys,
I’ve started a non profit corporation with Sean Shouldis and Steve Wonchowski called the Vernon Skatepark Memorial Association.
The town of Vernon has appoved the idea of us building a skate park and will be donating us an acre of township land to develope the skate park.  The next step for us is to file for tax exempt status with the IRS so that we can accept tax deductible donations and not have to pay tax on the donations we recieve. The skate park will be free to use and anyone from any town will be able to use it. We are looking to have Grindline Skatepark & Design company come over from the west coast and build it. We’re looking to raise $500,000- $1,000,0000 for the completion of this concrete paradise.
The park when completed will be one of the best in the Northeast United States. If you’ve got any fundraising ideas I’d love to have any of u guys jump on board. If any of you guys would like to donate or know anyone who would checks or money orders can be made out to the Vernon Skatepark Memorial Association and mailed to PO Box 71 Vernon, NJ 07462.
So far we’ve got a bunch of fundraising ideas such as applying for state and federal grants, bikini car wash, fishing tourney, softaball game/hr contest/tourney, keg parties, ebay auctions, change for change (collecting coins), a golf outing, and you’ll be able to go on vernonskatepark.org
and find out all info and donate online.  I’m def open to ideas to.
Thanks everyone. -Pat-
